24th Birthday Downtown

San Diego, CA

Where to start: Rustic Root
What to order: Moscow Mule Slushy

Where to go next: Craft & Commerce

Bonus: False Idol Tiki Bar

Step one of any birthday is to pop a bottle of champagne for mimosas as soon as you wake up. Step two is thank your roommate for putting together the best birthday adventure I could ask for. Read on for Macy's 20something adventure around Gaslamp Quarter in Downtown San Diego.

First adventure of the day was Rustic Root, the most magical looking burger joint on 5th street. I recommend just skipping downstairs and heading upstairs to the Alice In Wonder-LAND. It was a beautiful, sunny day (oh in California..?) in October so the restaurant opened the retractable roof (Note: the best places in SD have retractable roofs).

"5 Moscow Mule Slushies, please". Boom. Birthday made. Even melted that thing was strong. We were responsible "adults" and orders a burger and two fries to share; it was a great idea. Yum!

Next, our bartender who had tattoos from her legs to her neck - we almost asked what they were - told us to check out the newly renovated Craft & Commerce. After calling FRED (Free Ride Everywhere Downtown - app similar to Uber) and catching a massive golf cart ride to Little Italy we got to check out the cool new spot. It was decorated like a hipster wife married a vain Texas hunter and spent all his money creating this badass restaurant. It was packed but I loved standing around looking at the walls as much as I like sitting at a table. Get a reservation.

Bonus round for us didn't go so well. Make a reservation at False Idol Tiki Bar. I don't want to ruin the surprise but its worth it. Just keep your group under 4 and it'll make it easier.

I'd say the 20something birthday was a success!
